DIY Advent Calendars
I don’t know how common advent calendars are in other parts of the world, but over here you can find one in almost every house. The traditional versions are simple with pictures hiding behind 24 doors. Lately, however, chocolate versions have become more and more popular, and all the major chocolate brands now sell different versions for kids as well as for adults. I have to admit that I have always had a strange obsession with them. As a kid my mom indulged me with an advent calendar like no other I had ever seen. She made a white Xmas tree out of wood and hung 24 little bags filled with treats on it. Mostly I got sweets, but some bags contained other goodies like stickers and ornaments. And no matter how old I got, she never stopped bringing the calendar out once December rolled around. And I always made sure to make one for her as well. To this day, we still exchange advent calendars every year. I also make one for Richard and he makes one for me, and there is usually quite a bit of anxiety involved since usually one of us goes all out with an übercreative calendar/fillers. Richard’s mum also gets one from us, although this is the same every year. All in all, advent calendar making keeps us quite busy this time of the year, and we are always looking for new creative ideas. Here are some of our favourites this year:
