Souvenirs from Switzerland
As we both had a super busy time at work and additionally tried to tackle our mission “white doors for the box” we totally forgot to show off our souvenirs from our last trip to Switzerland on the blog. On our way to Zurich we first visited my granddad in Rheineck. Although granddad isn’t related by family he has always been like a “real” granddad to us. Christina and I couldn’t resist exploring every single corner of his house. We felt like treasure hunters in an oversized treasure chest. All the beautiful old things telling many a story. And then … we found this pile of great old crates in his shed. We just had to ask him if he had a few spare ones for us. And sure enough he did …

Aren’t they beautiful?
But this isn’t all! In Zurich we continued our treasure hunt, predominately in second hand shops, where we found this …

We couldn’t really figure out what it was, except that it has to be some kind of receptacle from the Swiss-Army. And indeed it is an old receptacle for tank munitions. G. told us that these receptacles are very popular in Switzerland. The shop owner wanted CHF 40,- (approx. EUR 26,-), and he actually could have charged even more for this item, but in the end I managed to haggle him down to CHF 20,- (approx. EUR 13,-). Sweet!
Very high on our to-visit-list was Bogen33, a second-hand shop in Zurich for funky furniture and accessories from the 20th century. Unfortuantely the shop was closed on Monday and Tuesday and we couldn’t extend our holiday. But we will be back soon and already looking forward to visit this magic kingdom!
So if you are planning to go to Zurich, make sure to stop by at Bogen33, it is perfect for a treasure hunt. By the way you can also go to Bogen33 by public transport (only one stop from Zurich central station) and of course make sure you also visit the Freitag-bag store, which is just next to Bogen33!
Freitag-bags were invented by the two Freitag-brothers in Zurich. The clue of these bags is that they are made out of old truck-tarapaulin and meanwhile reached cult status. But this one ingenious idea wasn’t enough for the two brothers and they demonstrated their creativity yet another time by piling up nine used truck-containers and forming them into a Freitag-shop.
That’s like totally awesome!
In one of our next posts we will show you how we put our souvenirs to good and stylish use. So stay tuned!
