Branch coat rack
In our post on our hallway you may have noticed this:

It is a coat rack that we made ourselves out of a branch. We had gotten a few branches from an old tree that was cut down. The boy immediately got to work with his Swiss army knife and stripped the branches off their bark. Here you can see the mess he made:

We spray painted the resulting naked branches in a simple white. It took about three coats to achieve an even finish. Next we placed two white chains about 15 cm inwards from both ends of the branch. It was important to wrap the chains around the branch at least twice to keep them secure in their place.

To fasten the construction onto the ceiling, we installed two simple white hooks. After drilling a small hole in the ceiling, these hooks could be screwed in by hand. Finally, we hung the chains on the hooks in the desired height.

You could pinch any surplus chain links off. Since we are lazy, we just left the rest of the chain dangling there.
